Lil Wayne Collaborates With Legendary Techno DJ Westbam On "Kick It (Like A Sensei)"

I don't really know if "Kick It (Like A Sensei)" is a Techno song or not, but what I'm sure is that it was made by the legendary producer, Maximilian Lenz aka Westbam. It's kinda strange, but the German DJ has collaborated this time with  Lil Wayne,  a very popular RnB artist in America.

Now this sounds pretty weird, cos I can't stand commercial artists, however the new track is now available on iTunes, and surprisingly I like it! Below you can watch Westbam performing "Kick It (Like A Sensei)" the second single of  his latest album 'Götterstrasse', which is out at the end of April. Enjoy it!

Westbam feat. Richard Butler - You Need The Drugs [Video]

Westbam is back! He was one of the most important pioneers in Techno music, not only in Germany, but globally. Now, the Berlin-based DJ celebrates his 30th anniversary on stage with a new album, which features collaborations with artists such Iggy Pop, Kayne West and Lil Wayne. It took me by surprise that the first single "You Need The Drugs" turned out that great. The video is also really worth seeing; it consists of pictures from West Berlin’s underground night life in the 70s and 80s. Check it out below!

Music Piracy Does Not Displace Digital Sales, Study Says

A report from the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies, part of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, has found that "digital music piracy does not displace legal music purchases in digital format", and that there is unlikely to be much harm done on digital music revenues.

The study specifically looks at the impact of online streaming and downloads, both legal and illegal on digital music sales rather than sales of physical media such as CDs.

A total of 16,000 Europeans from five countries (Spain, France, Germany, Italy and the UK) had their browsing habits examined, and perhaps the most striking finding was that the majority of the music that is consumed illegally by the individuals, would not have been purchased if illegal downloading websites were not available.

The study also found that illegal music consumption could stimulate legal music consumption. Since music is an experience good, file sharing can allow consumers to sample specific songs or albums which can inform them on what to buy. Similarly, the sampling of a specific song may stimulate individual demand for other songs by the same artist.

Moby Supports Undercover Animal Investigators

Moby, the animal advocate & DJ talked extensively at the Humane Society of the United States’ 2013 Genesis Awards about lawmakers attempting to stop animal activists from doing undercover investigations.

In a recent interview, Moby told the the media, “Undercover animal rights operatives and workers are for me the most heroic people in the animal rights movement. Like to go and work in a laboratory or to work in a slaughter house or a feed lot and do undercover work. They are my heroes. I couldn’t do that work. I’m too much of a sissy. But they have been so instrumental in…drawing attention to the worst abuses of animals…I think it’s horrifying that you have well funded lobbyists who are able to shut down the constitution when it suits their corporate interests.”

Moby also mentioned that on Thanksgiving he had his 25th vegan anniversary + talks about his next record. See the full interview below!

Past, Future And Present, All In One: Tum Cha Records

Tum Cha Records
Tum Cha is finally releasing its first single "Misura - Loving Ya". The original track is a Housy/Nu Disco downbeat which clearly remarks an 80s/90s influence. It’s clear that this record is made to satisfy different type of audiences. The progression sounds very smooth and powerful, the vocals are just great! Thanks to different elements on old style composition, I’d listen this record in a club as much as in a local pub. I’d love to listen more from Misura and more generally from Tum Cha Records which even though they are just at the first release, they already seems to be quite promising. More to come soon…

Open Letter To All DJs Playing In Germany

Dear DJs,

You might not know that Germany has officially joined the ranks of countries that now has a Digital DJ License. German law and the german licensing company, GEMA, make things a bit more complicated than you might expect. So, this is your chance to catch up, or have a laugh, whatever you prefer.

What all of this means is, that if you play a track that is a copied version of something you bought legally (or got for free as a promo), for example on a CD you burnt or on a USB stick, you might have to pay GEMA a license for copying. Even if you play tracks from an external hard drive this license applies. It applies to tracks you might copy from a backup to your computer too. For tracks to require a license, it is not necessary that you play them while you are doing your best DJ set ever in Germany, but to carry them with you with the intend of playing them while in a club is enough.

Now this does not apply to all your tracks you might have copied this way. As far as we know, if you copy a track in Germany, like for instance in a hotel room while on tour, just every track you copied in our country will be a track to which this license applies.

Now, how is this supposed to work? And why might it apply to you?

In general, every one of these tracks will cost you 0,13 Euro. You may even buy package-deals from GEMA for 50 Euro per 500 Tracks. Should you be terribly unlucky and your hard drive crashes, you will have to pay a fee of 125 Euro for all tracks, if you have more than 1000. Btw. you are not allowed to tell GEMA what tracks you actually play, so there will be no chance, that any of the money you are supposed to pay, will ever end up in the hands of the artists you support.

Still with me? Ok. So how would you pay this you might ask? GEMA imagines you will make a contract with them, that might even enable them to look through your computer, just in case you did anything wrong. Yes, we think this is strange too.

Will they really enforce this crazy license, and if so, how? Well, nobody knows so far, as it will only start the 1st of april (not an april fools joke though). We just thought we might give you a heads up, if anybody ever asks you in our country if you copied some of the tracks you play recently, or should you feel the urge to post on your social media outlets anything like: just got these crazy tracks from my friend and will play them tonight.

Yes this license applies to tracks you got from friends that are in the GEMA or any other licensing company and even to your own, if you have a contract with one. So don’t even think about playing tracks that you just produced on the road in Germany.

Berlin & Detroit Techno Scenes Explored In Short Documentaries

Berlin Scene
When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, Techno became the underground soundtrack to the reunion between East and West. In recent years, it's become an international destination for ravers, a cheap place to party with clubs that are renowned throughout the world. Techno has become a business in the meantime. Yet Berlin still maintains a credibility that other cities lack.

Detroit Scene
You can't talk about electronic music without mentioning Detroit. The city's DJs and producers birthed the genre we now call techno. Detroit, however, has always had a creative streak, due in large part to the boom and subsequent bust of the auto industry. Quite simply, Detroit is a city of extremes, and its music reflects that. Detroit's importance in the global electronic music scenes is often referred to in the past tense. With the recent emergence of Kyle Hall and other young Detroit producers, however, it's clear that a spark remains. When we visited, we found a number of artists with their eyes (and ears) firmly set towards the future. After our time there, it's clear that Detroit will endure and innovate for years to come.

Elle Madison Names New Dance Album 'Behold The Fairy Tales'

Elle Madison is a talented Dance music singer, that began her public music career in 2003 performing at local showcases on Long Island and recording tracks with local artists. Before she took her music to a public level, she recorded her first song at 11 years old. In 2006, Elle released her first full length EP, with the then Hip-Hop group known as EQ Allstars. This year she brings us something different but still enjoyable, her new album 'Behold The Fairy Tales'. This is a Dance Pop album with radio-friendly songs and interesting lyrics, too.
Some of the tracks were composed with pulsating synthesizers and strong beats, while some others got a slow downtempo/RnB rhythm, which she sings very well!  I will compare her as the American version of Natalie Horler from Cascada. 'Behold The Fairy Tales' was released on February 26th, 2013.

This Daft Punk's "Technologic" Remix by Yoonbell is just simply amazing! In the original track, an electronically transposed voice chants technological commands. However, as a fan, I have to keep supporting them.

Spencer Day 'The Mystery Of You' Album Review

Singer/songwriter Spencer Day's third album, 'The Mystery of You', is similar to his previously released albums in that the eclectic mix of jazz, pop, and cinematic themes is on display, but the overall tone is much darker. Calling this a concept album wouldn't be too far-fetched, as Day examines three years of his life involving a broken relationship and the extremes of love and loss. Thankfully for the listener, this isn't just a program of nothing but doom and gloom. One of Day's strong points as a songwriter is his avoidance of completely wallowing in heartbreak throughout. He examines the subject with similar stylistic flair as his heroes: Cole Porter, Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, and Paul Simon. Musically, Day fluently shifts between soul, Latin jazz, the scores of Ennio Morricone, early-'60s pop, and film noir soundtracks. The release of this album confirms Spencer Day isn't afraid to examine his surroundings, for better or worse, and will not simply rest on his laurels.

Spencer Day, A Modern Day Jazz Singer

Some call him a crooner, some call him a jazz singer, but to us he is Spencer Day. This lovable, humble young singer/songwriter has a story and talent we haven't gotten enough of over the years.

Spencer's fourth album, The Mystery of You, is a glimpse into the dark and tender places the heart faces in times of a break up, and the spiritual rejuvenation that comes from facing it head on. Thankfully for us, Day focused these moments of emotional sensitivity into his music.

Below, you can watch this mini-doc created by Spencer and the creative collective at CBear Media. Think of it as Spencer's ode to the journey of writing this album in San Francisco, a city he holds dear to his heart. Enjoy!

Techno Festival Awakenings Reveals 2013 Line-up

If you’re a Techno devotee, you’ve probably marvelled already at Awakenings. The festival happens each summer at an expansive site in Spaarnwoude, 20 kilometres outside of Amsterdam, with two open-air main arenas and at least seven smaller stages. On 29 June 2013, another elite line-up will gather for a full-throttle day and night. The mind-boggling thing about the party (apart from its long line-up) is how condensed it is: 11am to 11pm, one day only. Understandably, fans have barracked for it to be spread across a whole weekend, but in 2013 it remains just 12 hours of power.

The sound of Awakenings is resolutely Techno, from the hard-edged to the deep and atmospheric. The 2013 line-up features selectors like Adam Beyer (the only DJ to have played all 13 editions of the festival), Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, Len Faki, a Ben Klock & Marcel Dettmann team-up, James Holden and Sven Vath alongside live acts Modeselektor, Miss Kittin, Max Cooper, Ben Sims, Extrawelt, Gui Boratto and Fritz Kalkbrenner.

Celeste & Rokuro Create Anthem That Responds to Criticism of EDM Festivals & Unites

Recent biased press in Los Angeles has lashed out against EDM! damming festivals such as Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, and other raves to be nothing more than lowlife activities and it's outraged the EDM community. We have seen Kaskade with a response song and and a new EDM group collaborating from USA, UK, & Japan: Celeste & Rokuro were poised to release "Your Love" but instead decided to release " We Are Not Alone ", which was timely as both a response song to the current controversy as well as a song that relates to connecting all of humanity.
Celeste & Rokuro ↓
"It's always hard to tell someone what a song means because thats part of the mystery and recently there's been bad press for a thing that is so positive in the world. This song came from a stream of consciousness that turned out to not only be a response to the negative press that EDM festivals are getting, but a song calling to that part of us we all feel when we wonder about life. It's meant to bring us together . "We Are Not Alone" is really dancing between meanings and it's meant to. That's the beauty of that mystery. Inside that , there is comfort. I wanted to express that, but it came very rapidly and I really have no idea how it happens, but when it does, I am always humbled by any song coming through."

Celeste & Rokuro are on SoundCloud and posted the video for "We Are Not Alone" on their official Youtube channel. Please visit this link  facebook.com/celesterokuro to check out this amazing new EDM group.
