Megaupload Successor Mega Launched By Kim Dotcom

Mega has been launched by Kim Dotcom. The file upload service is a successor to the internet entrepreneur's Megaupload website, which was shut down by US authorities a year ago. It was confirmed last week that Mega will offer users 50GB of free cloud storage space, more than that offered by market leaders Dropbox and SkyDrive.

Dotcom announced the site going live to the public by tweeting: "As of this minute one year ago #Megaupload was destroyed by the US Government. Welcome to http://Mega.co.nz."

When Megaupload was shut down last January, Dotcom and his associates were charged with a string of offences including piracy and racketeering.

Dotcom is currently fighting to avoid extradition to the US. His opponents' case was weakened when a New Zealand court ruled that the raids carried out on his home to gather evidence were illegal.
