DJ Nina Kraviz' Favorite Tracks

Nina Kraviz, The Queen of Underground Electronic Music reveals her favorite tracks for the very first time!

The track I'll be opening my next DJ set with
M Pittman - Chicago Nights
As always, simplicity is the key. A good drum machine rhythm track is priceless because that's what makes your ass shake.

The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Levon Vincent - Air Raid
A high-energy ruff killer. Simple as that.

The track I wish I'd signed to my label
DJ Slugo - Freaky Ride
A dirty, cheap, stupid and vulgar ghetto-blaster. Raw sexiness from one my favourite Dance Mania artists.

The ideal festival track
Jared Wilson - This Love
I discovered this track a few years ago at Hardwax record store and since then I just can't stop playing it.

The track that should have been a crossover hit
DJ HMC - Marauder
This track was released in 2001 but still sounds as hot as if it was baked five minutes ago. Australian techno; weird and just huge. I don't know if it was ever a hit but this is my all-time weapon.

The best track by my favourite new artist
Amir Alexander - Violence
This track is very rough, weird and noisy. It's close to being an acid track but it's not an acid track … and I love the Asian melody.

The track I'd play at sunset in Ibiza
The Other People Place - Eye Contact
I wish to hear this played in Ibiza next summer. If nobody else does it, I will do it myself.

Calvin Harris Makes Acid Techno Song Entitled "Mansion"

"Mansion" by Calvin Harris is probably the best track in his awful Pop music album, called '18 Months'. Well, the popular Scottish DJ & producer made an amazing Acid Techno tune this time, which sounds pretty similar to Green Velvet, DJ Pierre and Boys Noize's productions. I just wish he would make this song his next upcoming single, because the rest of the album is pretty boring, and too commercial for my ears. Good luck Mr. Harris!

Miguel Campbell - Rockin' Beats [Video]

Miguel Campbell is a burgeoning young star that shot to notoriety in 2011 after 'Something Special', his debut release on Hot Creations became one of the biggest tracks of the year. Set to put Miguel back in the end of year charts for a second year running, "Rockin' Beats" is a smooth and addictive ride that's rich in harmonies and contagious bass-lines. Tensnake feat. Syron - Mainline [Video]

With a thumpingly retro bassline, snappy 909-styled hats and a chopped and re-pitched vocal which winds its way around the main refrain, "Mainline" is a positive and worthy reimagining of the 'glory days' of House music. With its feel-good, retro House stylings and assured vocal performance, the new release from Tensnake looks set to be as big as its feline predecessor.

Why No One Knows How Much Money DJs Are Making Now?

In the digital music era, complicated and outdated copyright law as well as private negotiations have made it difficult see how much is really going back to the people making music.

We're buying less music than we did the year before. Just like last year. And the year before that, and so on. But now more than ever we're streaming on YouTube, Pandora, Spotify, Electro WOW and a whole host of other digital music services, creating an entirely new pathway between your music loving ears and a producer's bank account, one that is anything but straightforward.

Today, there are a lot of different ways DJs can make money, but it's not always clear how much artists are pocketing from some of the most popular services. In the digital music era, complicated and outdated copyright law as well as private negotiations between DJs, labels and streaming services have made it difficult see how much is going back to the people making music.

Before the Internet, there were two different ways DJs made money off of sound recording copyright royalties. One way was through distribution, selling a physical record or CD, and the other was performance. These were two different categories of usage for which different rates were calculated, but once music went online the distinction between distribution and performance became fuzzier!

Watch the official music video below! This couldn't really have failed. The original was written by the on-point Luca C & Brigante. Roisin's stunning melancholic vocal soaring, over a quality, low-slung groove. An amazing Deep House track with murky phased-out synths stabs.

Boys Noize - Ich R U [Video]

"Ich R U" is probably the most melodic track on Boys Noize's new album 'Out of The Black'. Similar tracks with the same vibe are "Yeah", "Jeffer" and "Shine Shine". It's a surprise that people sometimes prefer the melodic or softer stuff from Boys Noize. "Ich R U" is obviously more of a softer one but it's still super funky and Disco6000. I'm loving the robot vocals, and the music video too, whic was directed by Patrick Jean & Sebastien Loghman.

Watch Vitalic's music video for his brand new single "Stamina" taken from the album 'Rave Age. The video was directed by Saman Keshavarz, and it's about a cop who faces the investigation of an obese woman & man who suffer a cardiac arrest, its concept is very funny in my opinion! Three years after his last album, and multiple dates throughout the world, the DJ is back in the studio ... But without losing sight of his live performances. Vitalic will play live with drummers and keyboards on December 7 at Transmusicales Rennes, and on December 12 during the festival I Love Techno.

Simon Cowell's Planned DJ Talent Show Has Been Cancelled

Simon Cowell's planned DJ talent show has been cancelled due to a squabble over top billing with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith's company. The show, which was first proposed in January, was a joint venture between Cowell's production company Syco, The Smith's company Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. But true to form, the X Factor boss and general Scrooge of the music industry, Cowell was keen to make sure his name got top billing. The Smiths were not so keen to take second billing leading to something of a squabble which ended with the lawyers being called in.

Pet Shop Boys - Leaving

Synthpop music directly influenced electronic music genres including House and Detroit Techno, and has indirectly influenced many other genres and individual recordings. The Pet Shop Boys, are one of my favorite artists that still make this music genre, and they are finally back, with a new single and video. "Leaving" is a song about growing older and facing death, a good song to reflect about life.
