Canada's Largest Electronic Music Festival Sent Ravers To The Hospital

More than two dozen people ended up in hospital, two in critical condition during a weekend-long rave in Edmonton, billed as Canada’s largest electronic music festival. Alberta Health Services says most of those patients were dealing with drug or alcohol-related issues. Many of the overdoses involved the drug ecstasy. Many were impressed with the security at the event, which was expected to attract more than 10,000 people over two nights.

Police and city officials expressed concern how a spike in sexual assault complaints and drug overdoses during raves puts pressure on emergency services. But rave promoters claimed they are being unfairly targeted and events like the Elements Music Festival put Edmonton on the map, artistically and musically by bringing a world-class event to the city.

DJack Snyder Is Poised For Big Things

DJack Snyder is a newcomer in the electronic scene. The Swiss guy is producing some badass thunderstorm tracks with his amazing synthesizers and bonkers beats. It seems that he's going to be big! Inspired by famous artists like Dada Life, Boys Noize and Bassjackers he created his first single called "Exploit", and in the next few months he'll be working on his first album. For some previews just visit his Soundcloud profile.

To give you a quick view into his already released songs we try our best to describe four of his tracks in the next few sentences.

Obviously, with "Exploit" DJack landed his best hit. Rough basses, pure Electro feeling and an astonishing tune made this track perfect for the dancefloor. "I Am Noize" and "Dirty Acid" are two perfect examples of modern Electro music. With "Dirty Acid" he's surfing the Boys Noize Acid House wave. Last but not least his Afrojack Dutch House style release "Complex", typical high-pitched sounds and a minimal bassline let you mean that you previously heard this track in a Chuckie set.

For all those who decided to check out his Soundcloud profile, there's waiting "Enfant Terrible" for you to download.

House Music Label Defected Sees Business Boom After Strategy Change

Defected Records was forced to diversify after losing 80% of its recording revenue since 2006. The firm blames illegal file sharers for the majority of the losses, causing falling sales of CDs, vinyl and digital music files. But now the record label boasts an international following thanks in part to it presenting more than 200 live events each year, showcasing its artists in  Asia, Europe, South America, and Australia.

Big names on the House music scene such as Junior Jack, Dennis Ferrer, and The Shapeshifters are among the acts that perform at Defected nights in 40 countries. The company employs 22 people at a time when many independent record labels have gone to the wall. It was set up 13 years ago by former EMI and Polygram executive Simon Dunmore, who has managed to navigate the label through tough times. The producer & DJ said at the height of its power, Defected would sell 50,000 copies of track that did not even make the charts. Now though, it relies on live club night events and festivals.

Kraftwerk To Release New Album Soon

In an interview with the New York Times, Kraftwerk's Ralf Hütter has revealed, in a rather cryptic fashion, that the band are working on a new album. The new material will be the band's first since 2003's 'Tour De France Soundtracks', and their first since founder member Florian Schneider departed the band in 2008. The interview followed on from Kraftwerk's eight-night residency at New York's Museum of Modern Art last week, where the band performed each album in full on consecutive nights, as well as a wide selection of other material.

Ralf Hütter ↓
Kraftwerk is a living organism, music is never finished. It starts again tomorrow. The record is just a record, but for us it’s nearly boring. We like better the programs that we can operate with. So we are operating, we are upgrading, we are updating continuously. There’s continuous reprogramming going on, and composition and new concepts are also coming . . . We learn from noise, and we learn from going to clubs.”
